When I listen to Alan Wilkis’ Babies Dream Big, the first thing that comes to mind is Prince. Prince took that classic soul sound and put his ubergenius guitar flare into it. Wilkis accomplishes a similar feat (though we might have to wait a bit to give him full on Prince status). Countless hours of listening to those dusty motown tracks splashed together with some new wave analog synth funk, and Wilkis comes out with his own unique and highly entertaining style. Sometimes he drops down to some Sly funk, then rips a Prince-esque guitar solo (minus the doves and the bathtub). When those old school drum loops come into the picture, I can’t help but turn the stereo all the way up. Dang! You owe me a new pair of speakers Wilkis.
