The genre of electronic pop music has become crowded as of late hasn’t it? A voice and a keyboard can grab the attention of the masses so easy, but it can also fade away just as easily. That’s exactly what Sweden’s Little Dragon does not do…fade away. Sure they’re electronic pop, but, as their second album Machine Dreams proves, they’ve developed and original simplistic style that is as catchy as it is provocative. The beats and organs never seem too cliche…they’ve been honed and crafted to push each tracks mood. Yukimi Nagano’s vocals almost sound bubble gum sweet, but there’s some dark soul to them that just seems to drag me in and keep me warm. So Hot Chip meets Portishead meets The Tough Alliance…yeah…but not quite as dense as any of those bands….and somehow a jazz element floats in…and they somehow sound better than that figurative mash would be. Yeah. Check it:
