I have to say that the world of remixes can be a bit over done sometimes. Sometimes it’s down right awful. But in the same accord there are some seriously sweet things happening too. And sometimes it can lead you to discover a band/artist you might not have come across in the first place. Take France’s Joakim for instance. Sure many people have blogged and emailed about him a dozen times over, but for some odd reason I just never pressed play. The other day a Joakim remix of Metronomy’s “Not Made For Love” floated into my inbox and I thought to myself, “Hey I dig Metronomy a good deal…so I guess I’ll spin this one time right now.” I’m so glad I did. The remix was some badass electronic pop wonderment. So I hunted for more on Joakim and was further impressed. His new album Milky Ways (featuring his band The Disco) is a swirling travel through ever genre of music you can think. Kraut rock, disco, electronica, club, indie rock, etc. This dudes like Ragu…it’s in there. But instead of sounding schizophrenic, it actually flows, blends…and shines. Check out some of my faves:
