If would have told me that DC’s Bluebrain was comprised of Hays and Ryan Holladay of the NYC band The Epochs…I might have looked at you with one raised eyebrow (if I could actually raise one eyebrow). That disco/funk/rock smoothness of The Epochs is nowhere to be found on Bluebrain’s single “Ten By Ten”. Rather there’s plenty of intense electronic textural pop rock that’s catchy enough to keep me listening and progressive enough to allow Bluebrain to separate their sound from the hoards of other bands trying to pull this sound off. Honestly I’ve played “Ten By Ten” entirely too much over the last few months, yet I’m still not bored or sick of it. That’s a credit to the amazing production (the two Holladay’s are producers as well) and crisp, innovative song writing of the duo. Soft Power, Bluebrain’s debut LP, is in the works and due out soon via Lujo Records.
