Sometimes I just miss out. The never ending stream of music can do that to a person. Why did it take me so long to listen to the local hip hop duo AK Slaughter? I dunno, but my ears are being coated by their old school battle rhyme party candy samplerific and dance till your knees get wobbly sick style right now. It’s like I’m listening Ultramagnetic MCs getting freaky with The Blow. YES! Emily Slaughter and Aran Keating self released A Personal Matter EP last summer and it jams to say the least (hey that rhymes and you know it rhymes, admit it). This summer they put out a free Mix Tape 2009 which you can grab for free digitally at their myspace or you can pick up the actual cassette next Friday October 16th when they’ll be performing with Height and Lizz King at the Wind Up Space here in Baltimore. The mix features some alternate versions of some tracks off of A Personal Matter as well as a load of obscure/great tracks that they’ve sampled/loved over the years. It actually gives you a good sense of where these two are coming from musically. Check some tracks:
