Here I thought my best albums of the year list had almost taken it’s final shape. Now my whole thought process has been re-arranged since receiving San Francisco’s Girls and their new album Album (out September 22nd via True Panther/Matador). The songwriting/voice of Christopher Owen immediately pounced on me like some sort of grizzly train hopping Elvis Costello playing his ode to 50s era pop around a burnt out campfire in a trash lined alleyway. Chet “JR” White’s production morphs from lo-fi acoustics to rock-a-billy to ocean wave heat waves. The mystical joining of these two artistic voices results in Girls. In my opinion this band and their Album is, frankly, friggin impossible not to like.
