Suggested Listening: Pope Joan

pope joan

Out of Brighton, England comes my new favorite band, Pope Joan.  They grind out a blend of punk and dance pop that flirts with the likes of The Presets and LCD Soundsystem yet completely original in their own right.  They hit it less on the dance floor and more with an energized punk/indie rock appeal.  Their infusion of 8 bit synths is what gets me really.  It cranks up the melody to another level entirely.  Pope Joan are that electro dance rock band that isn’t too dancey and that indie rock band that isn’t too indie.  The perfect medium I guess.  They had a mini album Hot Water, Lines and Rickety Machines that caught some ears last year.  Now Pope Joan has a new single Centurions//Volumes that is severely taking over my stereo.
