The duo/couple Cody Swann and Zahira Gutierrez began writing songs together a few years back after their personal relationship started to take off…. this eventually evolved into what we now know as Texas’ Wild Moccasins. They added Andrew Ortiz, Nicholas Cody, and Andrew Lee to the mix and all of a sudden this duo turned quintet was ready to raze the world with their burning pop tunes.
The first stage of that quest comes with Microscopic Metronomes, their new EP out now on Afternoon Records. You could call it a slightly more alt-country version of Mates of State or Bishop Allen (which I do). Or perhaps they could be described as a light handed jump up and down modification of the New Pornographers (which I also think is right on). Those three comparisons are three of my favorite pop bands, so I guess it’s no surprise that I’m infatuated with Wild Moccasins and their EP Microscopic Metronomes.
