It must be a daunting task to make an album full of instrumental electronic music. Most of the time club electronics can hold my attention for a few songs or so, but then I tend to drift away. When I found out about Cassettes Won’t Listen’s new instrumental album Into The Hillside, I hoped this was the one to hook me and not let go (like so many others)…and for the most part, I’m happy to say, it does. On Into The Hillside, CWL churns out a variety of speeds, beats, and genres to suit all my moods. There’s the high energy synth monster “A Lovely Drive To You”, the Dre-like funk of “The Sidewalk Cruise”, and the sparkling stars and whomping black sky bass of “1985″ – all sweet jams that inspire me to move. And that’s just a slice, the rest of the album is just as lively. Because of this Into The Hillside has made the dramatic leap from my work day soundtrack in the office to the car stereo where it currently serves as the soundtrack to my windows-down drive through town.
