An album I’ve been digesting over is the new one from Augusta, Georgia’s The Cubists – Mechanical Advantage. This album has a spilt personality of sorts. Part straight up rock, part ghost of Postal Service, and part spaced out My Morning Jacket escapades. The rock and heavy mood electronic songs are…okay, and sometimes work, but I clearly find myself drawn to the psychedelic and expansive songs like “The Orchestra Breathes” and “Mechanical Advantage” (which do remind me of My Morning Jacket). Those specific tracks create a deep sonic landscape with heavily reverbed vocals, ever changing grooves. In fact they emulate the name of the band, The Cubists, very well. Mechanical Advantage is for sure a good listen and The Cubists have my attention.
