The Silent Years are an indie rock band that I’ve always read a lot of good press for but never took the time to listen to. Their myspace page quotes Spin.com saying they “may be the best indie rock band in the country”. Hmmm…
As far as I can tell there’s two things working against them new. First, the title of their new EP is Let Go which also happens to be the title of one of my favorite albums, Nada Surf’s Let Go. So I immediately make comparisons…and sorry The Silent Years…you’ll always lose on that one. Second, living up to that Spin quote is a daunting task. There’s a lot of good rock bands this side of the Atlantic so to rule them as the best is simply out of the question.
On the plus side, the EP is full of good, strong, well recorded rock music that most people including myself will enjoy. It’s robust music filled with sharp riffs and rhythms as well as gorgeous accompaniments like strings and horns. The Let Go EP comes out on July 14th via SideCho.
