Last November I picked up Josh Reichman’s (Oracle Band included) Life Is Legal EP and was pleasantly surprised with his Zappa/Wonder experimental funk and soul rock. He has a new album out now, Crazy Power, which I have a review in the works for, but this post is dedicated to a few covers he’s released to help promote the new album. Both obviously sound different from the original, but stand up well on their own. Here’s what he had to say about them:
“I’m aiming with these covers (Deerhunter, Bat For Lashes and Bill Callahan upcoming) to showcase the songwriting that I think is strongest by these artists and reference there production but put my spin on them- which is to bring a raw strange life to there voices and re-contextualize or open up the lyrical themes to new dimensions. I only cover things that feel soulful or timeless, something I strive for in my music.”
