Suggested Listening: Pomegranates

I’ve been neglecting the Cincinnati music scene for way too long, but that ends today.  Pomegranates, aside from being a very heart healthy fruit, are also a Cincinnati band that deserve your attention.  There’s energy all around in every facet of their music making them hard not to like.  They’ve just released a stunning new album, Everybody, Come Outside!, which has all the traits of making end of the year lists – well thought out arrangements, stellar production, and engaging lyrics.  The most notable and catchy moments for me are the high range guitar lines that seem to be the pulse of each song.  They set the rhythm, the melody, and as a result of the mood of each track.  Everybody, Come Outside! was recorded by Pomegranates and mixed and mastered by TJ Lipple of Aloha (MGMT, Headlights, Minus Story).  Once I heard that Lipple was involved I could definitely see the parallels between Aloha and this album.  Everybody, Come Outside! is also somewhat of a conceptual album with an overall theme guiding the tracks.  It’s apparently a story of a man who leaves home, only to be abducted by a time traveler.  I might not have picked up on that if I wasn’t told, but it’s an interesting side note none the less.  Here’s a few tracks off it:

mp3: Pomegranates – Corriander

mp3: Pomegranates – Beachcomber

Now that I have perked your interest why not see them live?  They play here in Baltimore at the Metro Gallery with Wye Oak on Saturday.  See you there!

Everybody, Come Outside! is out via Lujo Records.
