It’s nice to hear a band that doesn’t sound like they’re trying to “sound like” another band – they just play rock music. That’s what is so appealing to me about NYC’s The Dig. They play solid rock with memorable hooks, and I really don’t find myself saying, “Hey they really sound like [enter more successful rock band here]“. They just come out full force with energy laden riffs and drums and have me singing along lyrics from their new demo in no time. Seriously…I’ve been crooning in my best lead singer rock voice “She’s gonna kill that boy!” for the last few days now and I think the people around me are getting mighty sick of my singing. Oh well…that’s how it is folks. Anyway back to the important things here, The Dig. They’ve got a new three song demo which you can get for free here and it’s pretty swell. Hopefully it’s a taste of what we’ll be hearing on their full length sometime around July. It will also be most likely what many will be hearing at Baltimore’s The Wind Up Space this coming Friday, May 15th (June Star will also be playing).

I saw them last month at the Talking Head (also with June Star) and they have a fine live set. I am definitely going to have to head down to the Wind Up space next week!
