Dan Deacon is an artist, performer, and musician…in that order. His live shows are a flaming sun bursting supernova of over the top energy that leaves everyone in another state. His older albums have been considered mind bending, pioneering, chaotic, and well…nuts. But change is beautiful, ain’t it? Risk equals reward, right? Dan Deacon is changing (as all good artists do) and taking risks by slightly deviating from his cacophonous sounds to one that has some semblance of order. This can be found on his newest release, Bromst (via Carpark). On the album (which I think is brilliant) there’s a harmonious build up of heat, life, and passion that permeate each song. Bromst could be the soundtrack of time lapse animation movies with ants eating a plant until it’s gone, flowers blooming at an accelerated rate, people speed walking through a downtown metropolis, and cars turning into streams of light on a highway. Bursts of life energy teetering on the brink of natural and man made, but in the end…..stunning.
