On April 7th Rough Trade is set to release the new album of Micachu and the Shapes entitled Jewellery. On this album Micachu delves into the realm I like to call Collage Rock. Band’s like Deerhoof fill this genre out. I like the word collage because the music can be all over the place at times – a piece of this paired with a piece of that – rough sounds with smooth ones – tempos speeding up then flat-lining – you get the idea. Micachu does this to perfection on Jewellery. It’s not standard radio play music, rather it’s an explosion of mood swings and ear glazings. If you’re up to a trip Jewellery has one packed for you – whether it’s the electric pulse of “Golden Phone” or the Pee Wee Herman shuffle of “Calculator” (my two favorite tracks) it’s worth the ride…
