I was a big fan of the British band The Shortwave Set and their debut album The Debt Collection in 2005. They play sample laden atmospheric pop music that’s hard not to like. It’s self described as “Victorian Funk” but…whatever. On March 24th via Wall Of Sound Records The Shortwave Set are set to release their follow up entitled Replica Sun Machine. Apparently after The Debt Collection gained some praise they caught the ear of Dangermouse and he asked them to accompany Gnarls Barkley on tour. After that it was set in stone that Dangermouse would produce their next album. And here we are…Replica Sun Machine is a wonderful DM nuanced album full of trippy samples and echoes of 60s pop music like the Mammas and the Pappas, The Beatles, and The Zombies. Here’s some stand outs:
mp3: The Shortwave Set – Harmonica
mp3: The Shortwave Set – Sun Machine
