Last December Sholi found their way into my inbox and I was taken by their EP, Dreams Before People. Read the review here. I mentioned their unique avante rock sound that would constantly build up and break down throughout a song…but leave with a feeling of majesty. This past February they released their debut self titled full length on Touch and Go/Quarterstick, and they didn’t drop the ball on it. Rather they continued with their complex yet coherent brand of modern rock. The production is better and over and album Sholi’s style and wonder really begin to set in. The lyrics are intelligent and the structure of each song is chaotic on the surface, but truly balanced on the ground. Catch them at the Touch and Go Showcase at SXSW on March 20th followed by a European/US spring tour.
