I’m not sure how much quality music comes out of Alaska, but Olga Bell part of (the now three piece) BELL is definitely what I would quantify as quality. 2008 they released EP with some pretty high praise from the usual cats and I’m definitely supporting that (albeit late). Now they’ve got a new single out, “Magic Tape” and it’s going crazy in my head – bouncing along the walls and such. It’s like Bjork met up with Telepathe and decided to bury themselves in club hip hop beats. Jagged, angular, bass booming, intense beauty that drifts away from normalcy just enough to captivate. BELL will be swinging down to SXSW and later rolling into DC (Rock and Roll Hotel on April 25th) and Philly (First Unitarian Church on April 26th) with Bowerbirds. Write that down on your calendar while you listen to the single (more dates after the jump).
