The folk genre has been…how do you say…a bit over done. But occasionally I hear something that sparks my ears gets me going a bit. Here comes Sydney, Australia’s Angus and Julia Stone, a guy and gal with hot and cold styles when it comes to making music. When they combine an explosion of steamy goodness usually occurs. They’ve just released The Beast EP which features two songs led by Angus and two songs led by Julia. Julia Stone has a sprite-like delivery you can’t help but warm up to. Angus’ tracks on the other hand are moody streams that actually remind me a bit of another Aussie band, The Panics (who I’m quite fond of actually). Of course he creates more of a folkier style than they do….doesn’t really matter though…the title track (led by Angus) is a winner and has found it’s way into my favorite songs of the week.
