Frontier Ruckus is a band that is messing with my mind. Sometimes they have The Decemberists painted over their sound. Except instead of Meloy’s sea faring vibe, there’s more of a pioneer farmy feel to it. Other times their sound is built like Page France or even more like Mike Nau’s newest project – Cotton Jones Basket Ride. And of course sometimes they don’t sound like either of those bands. Frontier Ruckus just opens the doors to their barn of sounds, lay down a hayride of a melody, and let the sun burn away. Matt Milla and friends make up Frontier Ruckus and they released The Orion Songbook last year on Quite Scientific. This Michigan band of harmonific banjo toting, saw bending, woods people have me locked in. Be sure to check them out on tour later this year.
