I first heard Brooklyn’s The Kiss-Off over on IGIF where they featured a new track titled “Fold Up Like A Piece Of Paper”. This track blew me away. It reminded me of a NYC version of another band I’m obsessed with these days, Glasvegas. I also found out that The Kiss-Off had an EP, Brace, out earlier in 2008. Naturally I quickly gobbled it up. It’s a solid release that is a bit more beat driven than I anticipated, then ends on a high note with “Amplify”. Drawing on the same structure as “Fold Up…”, “Amplify” has a body of ambient guitars, train track rhythms, and echoey leads. I love it. This is also the type of sound that The Kiss-Off will be sporting on their new LP set to be released in 2009 (coupled with a tour of course). Here’s to hoping they swing by this neck of the woods.
