Carl Jordan, the main ingredient of LA’s The Western States Motel, released a new EP this past September called Painted Birds Flying In The Orange Mirror Sun. That pastoral title sums up the feeling Jordan weaves together with his unassuming vocals, light pawn shop organs, and strummed guitars. A tamer Jason Falkner perhaps, but definitely a solid opo soundtrack for some sunny California dreaming while I’m hunkered down in this frigid east coast winter.
