The Theater Fire

Who is The Theater Fire and why haven’t I heard of them before???  It’s a travesty really.   Maybe it’s because they’ve been nestled comfortably down there in Texas, but really that’s no excuse.  In December they’ll release their third album, Matter and Light, and I’m quite fond of it.  A lot of critics seem to be labeling The Theater Fire as alt/country avant-garde, and I guess that’s somewhat appropriate.  The Theater Fire wrangle together the laid back sounds of the Grateful Dead and the mysterious darkness of Johnny Cash, but this is no throwback band.  There’s a modern sensibility or charm hidden beneath the parlor piano, twangy guitars, and horns that gets my soul every time.  Be sure to catch them touring this fall if you can (myspace).
