It’s Friday. It’s grey. This day feels like it’s going in slow motion. The band Psychic Powers pops up on my computer and every thing fits. I easily fall for their new wave electronic pop that could be the backdrop of a dark grey London evening…but these guys come out of LA? Where’s the sun and fun and lo-fi surf pop that seems to be the staple. Ah well good riddance for this fine dreary day…Psychic Powers, the duo of Nik Brinkman of Over The Atlantic (from New Zealand) and Alejandro Cohen of Languis, met while on tour and then decided to collaborate later through the internet. They have just released their single Wellington out on Geographic North and this two track number has a New Order feel all over it…which is aces in my book. There’s a full length in the works for next year. Check it:

So I’m not the biggest fan/listener of Shwayze, but when my main man Alan Wilkis is attached to something I tune in. Glad I did for Wilkis’ new remix of Shwayze’s “Get U Home”. He lathers in his usual electronic funk, but makes it a bit harder with an almost Chromeo meets Daft Punk feel. Love it.

You know I really don’t have time for music that does not motivate me. I NEED some motivation alls the times holmes! Enter The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! and their ridiculously long name, but sporting some simplistic smack me on the side of my Isaac Brock loving music brain and BAM! I’m motivated to do THINGS! YES! Thanks TTPDR! They have some music of theirs streaming on their site as well as for purchase via Luaka Bop. You can also check them out this Friday at Sonar here in Baltimore opening for Junior Boys.

San Fran’s Ring Trick, producer of perhaps one of my favorite Radiohead remixes, is being quite the ambitious musician this month by posting a demo a day on his tumblr blog. If you’re in the mood for some solid electronics song sketches then please dig into what he’s doing here. He was nice enough to send us a few of the recently one-a-days so here they are:

Boston’s Bodega Girls play that off beat Architecture In Helsinki meets Black Kids indie dance funk hip hop that interests me greatly. This style also blends seamlessly when they introduce it to Passion Pit and their sweet remix of “To Kingdom Come”. Check it:

Way back when this blog was first cutting it’s teeth I had the pleasure of catching New York’s Ravens & Chimes at the Rock and Roll Hotel in DC. Needless to say it was an amazing performance featuring a super sweet cover of Leonard Cohen’s “So Long, Marianne”. Then I picked up their debut album Reichenbach Falls and was equally impressed by what I heard. They play intricately arranged rock in the vein of Arcade Fire, but it’s all unified by the expressive and heartfelt vocals of Asher Lack. They’ve been busy recording a new album and were kind enough to give us a brand spanking new song to share with all yous.

Two bands with completely opposite styles come together in a seriously friggin sweet way when NYC’s new wave experimental rockers Violens step up and remix the afrobeat jam “Warm Heart Of Africa” by The Very Best. Take a listen:

Okay. I’m sure you’re looking at the name Fizzy Dino Pop and wondering whether Pasta has lost it a little bit. Trust me, I have, but this band is legit. They sent me an email the other day with two of their tracks and a message informing me they were Neon Indian’s favorite band on myspace. They weren’t lying either. This duo from the Austin make SWEET (as in sugary and as in awesome) electronica dance pop…but with style and originality. Check it:
