Glasvegas Announces North American Tour Starting In March

One of my favorite bands from 2008, Glasvegas, is making the trip back over seas in March to set out on a fairly decent sized North American tour.  Lucky for us they roll through DC on March 26th when they play the Black Cat.  Check the rest of the dates after the jump.

New Music: We Swim You Jump

Influenced by Elliot Smith, Rilo Kiley, and Loney Dear, Netherlands five piece We Swim You Jump are beginning to make waves in Europe.  Well the tides are drifting this way as well.  They have a self titled EP full of acoustic pop music that’s worth making time for.  A highlight track is the Smith-esque “Sparks Fade Out”.

The Run Down – January 31, 2009

If you’re hanging around Baltimore tonight perhaps you’d be keen on stepping over to the Hexagon for night two of the Aural States fest.  This is the dance night and features Cex (Rjyan Kidwell), Craig Sopo, and Garret McIndoe.  Down in DC is the last night of the Thievery Corporation at the 9:30 Club as well as the infamous Lykke Li performing at the Sixth and I Historic Synagogue.  Also in DC are Telograph, Cobra Collective, American Bang, and Triggers at the Rock and Roll Hotel.  Up north in Philly the 941 Theater has a great show with The Bye Byes, The Surefire Broadcast, and BC Camplight.  Finally if you don’t mind a bit of travel you could head up to Swarthmore College, PA to take in Passion Pit and Cale Parks.  Enjoy!

New Music: Superpose

Sometimes all I want is some dance music.  A beat that drums the day a way.  Here comes Brazil’s Superpose to save the day.  Their new EP, Dance Me ,is the perfect blend of disco house dance music.  Add some melodious vocals into the equation and I’m there.  Check it:

Friday (I’m A Remix)

Here comes Superbowl weekend!  Who’s your pick?  What?  You don’t have one?  I’ll admit it, I’m not overwhelmingly excited about the match up, but hey it’s a perfectly good excuse to kick back and eat some seriously unhealthy food for a few hours.  Also I’m pretty psyched to see the Boss at halftime.  Hopefully it’s not a blowout, but if so, maybe there will be some entertaining commercials for a change (apparently the ad agencies have determined that laughter would be the best medicine for the dismal times).  Whatever the case is for your super Sunday plans, here’s some fine mixes to usher the party in.

The Run Down – January 30, 2009

Tonight if you are in Baltimore you should n0t be anywhere but our friends Aural States’ One Year Anniversary Festival at Sonar.  The line up includes a slew of stellar local acts including Arbouretum, Wye Oak, Lo Moda, Small Sur, Sri Aurobindo, Andy Abelow, Imperial China, and Caverns, Pleasant Livers, CANNOT BE STOPPED, Hollywood, Title Tracks (John Davis from Q and Not U/Georgie James).  If you are not in Charm City and in DC instead then perhaps you’d like to check in on the next saga of Thievery Corporation in their week long take over of the 9:30 Club.  If you’re up in Philly then you’re probably aching to see Lykke Li at the First Unitarian Church with Wildbirds & Peacedrums.  If you can’t manage to swing that one, you’re in luck because there’s another fab show over at Johnny Brenda’s featuring Annuals, Jessica Lea Mayfield, and What Laura Says.  Enjoy!

New Music: The Loyal Divide “Labrador EP”

It’s so pleasing when an email comes through with some seriously impressive music on the other side of it.   Chicago’s The Loyal Divide recently ended up in my inbox with a free download of their new EP, Labrador.  The way the cut up electronics flowed out of the first track (and the following ones) I could have easily been listening to Prefuse 73, but then soft pop vocals come in at just the right time to really set this thing off.  I don’t know much about the band except that they play music to ride the rails to.  Beat driven, grungy, dance pop, that reflects the cold days of Chicago as the trains fly by.  It definitely fits our Baltimore landscape as well.  Expect more from these guys in the future (another EP is in the works).
