Pitchfork recently posted this stream of The Flaming Lips new track “Space Bible With Volume Lumps”. The track comes as part of the soundtrack for the sure to be oscar-nominated Christmas On Mars movie. Sure to be a boring movie (I love sarcasm). Check out the song…it’s pretty swell as well:
Happy Halloween! The wonderful day where everyone tries to be something they’re not. How’s that different from every other day? Make-up. This Halloween I’m dressing up as a responsible citizen that is ready to vote vote vote! How’s about you?
A few weeks back we posted on the fabulous mixtape The Hood Internet put together for Tobacco and Aesop Rock mash-ups, but little did we know that they were in the midst of producing The Mix Tape Volume Three. This thing is mega and might be their best yet. Chromeo vs. Rihanna? MF Doom vs. Ladytron? Hell yes! Here’s my favorites so far (but the whole thing is worth the download):

mp3: The Hood Internet – Estelle (feat. Kanye West) vs. The Ting Tings – Sut Up, American Boy
While you might be in the middle of putting the perfect costume together, I thought I’d just spill a little knowledge on some of the shows tonight. Down in DC the uber-band Coldplay rolls into the Verizon Center with Duffy while on a much smaller stage at Iota Junior League and The Resurrectionists play. Up in Philly the place to be is the Starlight Ballroom with Man Man, Tim Fite, and Pit Er Pat. No wait the place to be is the Electric Factory with Of Montreal and Gang Gang Dance. Aw shucks, I’m mistaken again. The place to be is the North Star Bar with Murs and Kidz In The Hall. I guess it’s really up to you where you should be.
If you’re in the city of brotherly love/world series champions then add another winning token into the old jukebox of life, cuz The Ting Tings are playing one of those fabulous free Myspace shows tonight at The Barbary. Doors open at 7:30 (get there earlier…duh) and people are encouraged to dress up and get wild. Happy Halloween!
I don’t know much about The BPA (or The Brighton Port Authority) except that it is the new project of Morman Cook aka Fatboy Slim and it features collaborations with David Byrne, Dizzee Rascal, Emmy The Great, Iggy Pop, Pete York, Jack Penate, Jamie T, Martha Wainwright, Conan, Olly Hite, Lateef, Ashley Beedle, Simon Thornton, Thomas Gandey, and Justin Robertson. Pretty friggin’ sweet, right? Especially on this second single from the album featuring Dizzee Rascal and David Byrne…check it:

We’ll keep you up to date on any further info on this mysterious project. Oh and be sure to check out the “Toe Jam” (possibly NSFW) video after the jump.
My new favorite band Department Of Eagles have recently recorded a session over on Daytrotter. The bonus is that two of the songs are brand spankin’ new. Here’s my favorite:
mp3: Department Of Eagles – 1997 (previously unreleased/Daytrotter Session)
Go listen to the rest of it here and be sure to read the info on each song (it’s pretty insightful).
Tonight in DC don’t miss a good one at the Black Cat with Polysics, Jaguar Love, and Black Gold. If you happen to be up north in Philly there are a trio of shows to see. First at Johnny Brenda’s O’Death, Hoots & Hellmouth, and Pepi Ginsberg play. Over at the Barabary Neva Dinaova and McCarthy Trenching stroll into town while finally at the Electric Factory Matisyahu, Flobots, and Mishka perform. Enjoy!
