One of my favorite tracks from last year (though it didn’t appear on any of my lists) “Invisible Forces” by The Fresh And Onlys has just spawned its video counterpart. This track made its way onto so many personal playlists of mine with its eerie lo-fi garage sisters of mercy haunt. Check out this equally eerie woods ritual video directed by Craig Oliver and Nathan Gulick:
It seems like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs album It’s Blitz came out ages ago, but really no. They’ve just released a video for the track “Skeletons” off of it. Take a look:
One piece of music that is getting an overwhelming amount of play in the Pasta household is My Gold Mask’s A Thousand Voices EP. If you haven’t had a chance to get it – pick it up here. Meanwhile take a look at the first video from the EP for the stunning single “Violet Eyes” directed by Jim Newberry:
By now all should be keen on The xx (if not – where you been?), and most, including me, are all in agreement that they’re pretty rad. So when they release a new video, like they just did for the track “VCR”, it gives me a reason to revisit their stellar LP from last year. It’s a good day now…
A vision of the best albums of 2010 is slowly starting to appear in my head and low and behold Toro Y Moi’s Causers Of This is definitely high on it. Since receiving the promotional copy of this album a few weeks ago I have not been able to turn it off. Toro Y Moi aka Chaz Bundick creates…a masterpiece in my mind. Blending R&B, pop, glo-wave, and turntablism into an entirely new sound that I really can’t compare to anyone playing music right now. That’s an impressive feat for sure. On one hand I hear spacey pop like Washed Out but on the other I could swear I’m listening to some old school DJ Shadow. “Blessa” the lead single is a tape looping/warping pop wonder that melted my ears from the first dip in octave. Bundick puts together a splendid finale with the title track “Causers Of This” where he layers a wave of samples together with hurricane force and drives it home.
Causers Of This comes out on February 2nd via Carpark. Catch Toro Y Moi on February 27th at Cafe Nola in Frederick, MD and on March 24th at the Black Cat in DC with the Ruby Suns.
Brooklyn band Bear Hands is about to release a new single “What A Drag” in February, but you can download it free via their website for the next month. They bring back the same energetic rocknroll sound some how creating a heavenly blend of Modest Mouse and The Pixies whilst bringing in some new found synths to spice it all up. “What A Drag” has me even more pumped about this band. I’m still wondering where the album’s at though…
An album that has been generating a whole lot of praise lately is Laura Veirs‘ July Flame. People like Colin Meloy and Jim James are pumping it up as well us yours truly (check my review here). Stereogum has just premiered the first video from the album for the title track. I tried embedding right smack dab on this here site, but SG’s embed feature wasn’t working out for me so head over there to view it (it’s pretty crazy fabulous!).
Animal Collective, fresh off everyone’s top ten list, has just released a new video for the track “Brother Sport” off of Merriweather Post Pavilion. It was directed by Jack Kubizne. Check it out:
I know what you’re thinking…where can I get some off them glow-in-the-dark eggs?
