Sorry for the lack of posts the last few days…I’ve been taken over by a bastard of a head cold. Once the fog in front of my eyes clears, I’ll be back to business as usual.

Is it strange that there are so few remixes of Bat For Lashes? I mean Two Suns is one of the top albums of the year (IMO) so you’d think people would be goin’ all Phoenix-remix-happy over some of the tracks. Not to say there aren’t any, but just not an abundance for such a heralded group/person. So here comes Skream with his serving of “Pearl’s Dream”. I’m no fan/expert on dub electronic music, but London’s Skream is supposedly one of the better DJs pushing it. The result of the remix…it’s okay. Does it do the original justice by taking it to another fantastic level? No. Not really. Is it still a good listen? Yes.

It’s great to see so many jumping onto the Drink Up Buttercup bandwagon. Really once you see their energetic and intoxicating live show, it’s hard not too. They’ve signed to Yep Roc and have an album in the works for next year. Also they gave out this new track “Even Think” for all to enjoy. I like to think back a few years and remember when I first blasted some scratchy/extremely lo-fi demos of “Sosey and Dosey” and “Mr. Pie Eyes”. “Even Think” is much more focused and clear than I ever remember their recordings sounding….and that’s awesome. Look out folks.

I know I just posted on the strange but weird “This Must Be It” video from Royksopp and Fever Ray’s Karin Dreijer Anderson, but soon after I discovered that Royksopp had started a remix contest for perhaps my favorite track off Junior, “Tricky Tricky” which also feature the haunting voice of Dreijer Anderson. The contest is closed now and I’ve heard a lot of marginal efforts. By far my fave is the spaced out Salem [**CORRECTION - this is Salem but not the Salem you think of when you read the name Salem. I was duped. Oh well. It's not the first time and it certainly won't be the last. THIS Salem is from Sweden**] version. They take that minimal electronic back bone synth line and splatter it with psychedelia. The outcome sounds a lot like early 90s electronic industrial pop a la Depeche Mode’s Violator. That’s aces in my book.

Many of you who follow Pasta Primavera may have wondered, “Yo Pasta! Where’s your artist reviews/suggested listening posts? Those are the part of your site that I love the most!”
Well that’s the part of the site that take the most time to develop and create and lately I’ve been short on time. Why? Well this past Sunday (Easter) my wife gave birth to a new baby boy!! It’s the most amazing and beautiful thing that has ever happened to me. Really. I’m looking at him right now – I’m in awe. So as you can imagine between the time at the hospital and getting situated at home, I haven’t really had the desire to take the time to examine albums and such. Don’t worry – I’ll be back at it soon (Today I plan on working on new reviews for The Decembersits, Official Secrets Act, and Double Dagger so look out for those in the future).
I would like to use this post as public record to state how friggin awesome my wife is. I don’t think I could ever come close to the strength she showed throughout the pregnancy. And to show how cool she is, after our son was born and we were able to hold him for the first time, they had to take him away to run the standard tests. She then looked at me completely spent and asked if I could put on the new Animal Collective album. Nice.

Was it any surprise that Animal Collective (North Carolina) is the winner? No not really. They showed by their thorough trouncing of Vampire Weekend (Michigan State) that they are truly in a class by themselves. Congrats to all the AC and UNC fans out there. You deserve it. I on the other hand will take a look at my bracket and try to figure out where it all went wrong (possibly choosing Cut Copy/Pitt to go all the way). Until next year…
